When you think of the word recycle would you associate that with the concept of fashion? Majority of the time people necessarily wouldn’t. Nevertheless, there are brands that do use recycled materials and tackle waste in ‘innovative’ ways
1. Blonde gone rogue / @blondegonerogue
The first brand to mention is a London sustainable brand blonde gone rogue, which use high-end, bright coloured fabrics left over from productions giving them a ‘second life’. Their aims are to redefine sustainability in fashion, along with using recycled packaging. blonde gone rouge claim, “We work with factories in Bulgaria that pay above average wage and provide healthy and friendly working conditions.” Also, check out their blog here!
2. Doodlage / @doodlageofficial Secondly Doodlage, located in India, represents innovativeness by using eco-friendly materials and fabrics from countries like India, Bangladesh and China, as they produce a large volume of garments per year including eco friendly fabrics such as, organic cotton and corn and banana fabrics that would otherwise go into landfills if wasted.
3. RubyMoon / @rubymoonswim
Activewear brand Ruby Moon create gym wear and swimwear reducing their carbon footprint by 42%! Ruby Moon re-claim swimwear alongside other fabrics and feature them in an upcycled swimwear line. Fish nets and plastic waste from the ocean are used as materials to create their gym wear and swim wear. They describe themselves as “Up-cycled and Recycled Chic.” Check out their Instagram for more of their contemporary wear!
4. Re/Done / @shopredone
Situated in downtown Los Angeles the denim focused brand Re/Done, reuse old denim jeans to repurpose and upcycle them into new jeans. The eco-friendly method they use to create their clothing by using water conserving methods without using harsh chemicals and also keeping original stitching where possible giving their garments a unique aesthetic. Alongside denim products they also create boots and sneakers! Check them out below!
