Day 12 - Charity Shop Finds

Updated: Mar 31, 2020

Why you should say yes to second hand clothes!

Charity shops are great, they provide us with second hand items like clothing, accessories, books, homeware, etc. but they often get overlooked by consumers who prefer to shop at well-known high street stores instead.

If you’re shopping on a budget and want to do your bit for sustainable fashion, charity shops make the best places for you to affordably expand your wardrobe. Unlike high street retailers, most charity shops cater for all styles and sizes so you are guaranteed to find something you like! It also gives you the chance to try different things and perhaps buy clothes you wouldn’t usually purchase from fast fashion brands.

Not only can you find quirky second hand clothing, you can often find brand new items with tags still on as not all donations have been used! Browsing through charity shops can be fun and exciting, it’s like a lucky dip! Sometimes, you can come across designer brands hidden amongst rails and shelves, finding a pair of Levi jeans for less than £10 or The North Face jacket for £4!

Charity shops can also be places for inspiration! The other day I visited my local Cancer Research UK store and noticed this upcycled cushion on display. Someone had turned a denim jacket into a cushion and it looked so cool! It instantly gave me lots of ideas of how I could do the same with my unwanted clothes and hopefully, it will give others a creative vision too!

I’m sure your local high street is home to charity shops that support amazing organisations, so start saying YES to shopping for second hand clothes. It’s definitely worth taking a look inside second hand shops when you next take a visit to your local town centre, you never know what hidden gems you might find!

Interact with the #CharityShopFinds on Instagram and challenge yourself to find some funky second hand items!

Today's Task:

What is something you really wish to find in a charity shop? Maybe it's time to do some research at your local vintage shop? Or what is your best charity shop find to date?
