Day 14 - What's Next?

What have we learned?

Let us start with how Slowdown Fashion is intended to deal with use, waste and monotonous methods for overseeing cash with; fun and stimulating ways that will better our systems and lives. We have studied how the clothes end up in landfill and we now have an idea on how to make use of recycled clothes and how we can make this a norm and also help people

We mainly focused on TRAID organisation as they mainly focused on environmental and social impact as they preferred to do this with used clothes or recycled clothes. The funds that is being raised by this organisation is dedicated to global projects to improve the textile industry and all we have to do is give out our clothes for recycling as they also do home collection.

One can always fix a ripped jean or a broken accessory, after all it is for a good cause. Cleaning your wardrobe is always a good idea as one can always find unworn clothes, when such clothes are at home you can always opt to donate, upcycle, pass down clothes or resell them.

With all this in mind, one must always consider how the fast fashion industry influences the environment negatively. This does not happen only because of the landfill of clothes but also because of the toxic chemical in them, they not only affect the workers but also people wearing them. The national centre for biotechnology information states how these chemicals can affect our bodies. Additionally, the hormone health network states how it can affect our health conditions and yet we do not think twice before buying.

Now all we need to do is to make sure we have a budget for sustainable fashion and charity shops to expand our wardrobe. Since these places have clothes in all sizes, we get to have wider and different choices in the brands we choose as charity shops accepts clothes from all brands. We now know how to make use of old clothes, we can turn an old jean to décor pillows, make homey rugs from t-shirts and much more.

Where else can you look?

You can always look at similar campaigns like;

  • Fashion Revolution: who made my clothes.

  • PETA: I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur.

Today’s task:

Finally! It’s time to realise the idea we’ve put out throughout these two weeks, by actually doing the job to donate your clothes! Tell us where you decide to do it.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for showing so much patience and for reading every blog post we put up. This gratitude is to everyone who decided to stand with us throughout this campaign, we appreciate the time you have given to read this blog to gain more knowledge on how fast fashion works and what can be done to reduce it.
